American engineers managed to create an instrument that allows you to extract water from the air in desert lands. The gadget has already been tested in the arid climate of Arizona. It turned out that the device can collect a glass of water per kilogram of active material per day.
The importance of the invention is difficult to overestimate, as many regions of the world suffer from a lack of drinking water, sometimes the drought lasts several months due to abnormal reasons, and sometimes this is the usual seasonal phenomenon for individual corners of the world. Whatever it was, the local people depend on the supply of water from other territories, or are forced to overpay for the filtration and cleaning of local low-quality water.
Engineers offer an alternative solution: to collect water from the atmosphere by freezing air. However, this method is not suitable for regions with a low level of humidity. Then, experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, led by Evelyn Wang, designed a device that can collect water even from dry air. The device was created in 2017 and already had time to experience.
The device is not difficult - it does not have any mechanical parts. Outwardly it is a chamber with an absorbent plate of highly porous copper in the upper part. On the inside, they planted a metal frame from the organics MOF-801. Scientists have chosen this connection because of its ability to save moisture. The upper part of the plate is painted black, which ensures maximum absorption of sunlight. The heat is sealed with a layer of transparent airgel. In the lower part of the chamber there is a condenser, from which heat is removed by means of special tubes.
The device works during the night-day cycle. The first stage involves opening the side wall of the chamber and removing the airgel. The device will accumulate moisture. In the daytime the wall closes, the coating also returns to its place and under the influence of heat the air condenses and turns into water. Scientists after testing this water for fitness, and it turned out that it is less harmful than tap water.

A scientist from the United States has developed a new type of battery, which is believed to be capable of holding up to five times more power than the devices that are used in modern high-powered telephones, laptops and electric vehicles.
