In order to effectively interact with a person, algorithms need to have an idea about social norms and not violate them, as well as observe the human right to property.
Researchers taught the AI to distinguish things belonging to and not belonging to a person by holding them in their hands for only a few minutes. The robot was trained on the basis of two models - clear instructions (“don't take my things”, “you can take my things”) and based on his own experience and attempts to take possession of the thing.
My colleagues and I are focused on creating such robots that people can interact with as easily as possible. Part of this work is devoted to the study of how we can teach machines the general social concepts - things that are important for people: an understanding of property rights or a request to use this or that object. These topics do not receive due attention, and meanwhile, they will be crucial for the work of robots in our homes, schools and offices.
