Australian developers have created the iWitnessed application to record testimony of witnesses and victims of crime. It should help not forget the details of the incident.
This is reported by Sydney Morning Herald.
The police try to interview the eyewitnesses of the crime as soon as possible, since the details of the event in most cases are very quickly forgotten.
An experiment in which participants knew in advance that they were to reproduce an image or scene in memory showed that even in this case, 14 percent of subjects forgot the details in 5 days and 18 percent in 15 days.
Therefore, the creation of mobile applications, which would help to quickly record the testimony of witnesses, would help law enforcement officers obtain more reliable and complete information.
The iWitnessed application was developed by experts in the field of psychology, memory and interrogation from Sydney University and the University of New South Wales. It uses special techniques that help to maximize the usefulness of information and preserve the memory of the event. The application can be used for any type of offense, from fixing the details of an accident to the investigation of cases involving terrorism. In addition, the program can record both single and repeated episodes.
The user is encouraged to store information in the form of text or voice notes. In addition, photos can also be attached to indications (for example, pictures of people, places or injuries) or screenshots (SMS messages, social networking or mail). If the witness is connected to the Internet, he can also add location, date and time data.
All records will be stored on the phone until the person decides to send them to someone - the police do not receive data automatically. For privacy in iWitnessed, you can enable pincode input.
