The best and well-established tool for detecting radioactive contamination are well-known Geiger counters.
They register the radiation sources to capture the flows of photons and electrons. But researchers from Korea recently proposed a slightly different method.
According to the publication Nature Communications, their device is able to detect the source of dangerous radiation at very long distance.
And the researchers even posted the Assembly instructions. The development is a scientific group from the National Institute of science and technology in Ulsan, headed by Dr. Jinmi Choi.
According to the researchers, the "traditional" approach works only at small distances, while their method allows to identify the source of threats from a safe distance.
Scientists drew attention to the fact that electrons produced by radioactive substances of particular influence on powerful beams of electromagnetic radiation and plasma clouds that they create when moving. Free electrons are always present in the air, but their number is sufficiently small.
If you focus the search on a narrow region of space, then hit the electron it will be a very high probability to speak about the source of the radioactive hazard. My hypothesis is checked by specialists using powerful magnetron, a focusing antenna, transducer, radio waves and containers with cobalt-60.
During their experiments, researchers monitored the time of occurrence of the plasma clouds. As it turned out, their method allows to find even trace amounts of cobalt-60. Such a radiation detector works under both normal and low atmospheric pressure.

The American company Northrop Grumman in conjunction with the U.S. air force held the first of a series of tests of a new multispectral camera MS-177 installed at strategic unmanned aerial vehicle RQ-4 Global Hawк.
According to Flightglobal, the first flight with the new camera UAV did at the end of March this year.
According to the plans of the us military Global Hawk drones will gradually replace the obsolete reconnaissance planes U-2 Dragon Lady. On the first stage of the unmanned vehicles will set the camera multispectral SYERS-2 used U-2, but after the trials, they will be replaced by a new MS-177.
Multispectral camera is needed for a thorough exploration of the area. They allow you to take photographs in various spectral ranges, so it is possible to detect, for example, disguised technique. In may last year, was presented the upgraded camera SYERS-2C, able to capture images in ten spectral bands instead of seven.
Improved camera can shoot in full color, blue, red, green, yellow, black colors in the visible spectrum and the near, middle and far range of infrared radiation. Switching between modes is very fast. All images are sent via satellite at a speed of up to 274 megabits per second.
According to the company United Technologies Aerospace Systems, developed a camera MS-177, it differs from the SYERS-2C higher resolution photos. In addition, the lenses of the new spectral camera is not fixed and can drift forward or backward in the direction of flight at 25 degrees. Finally, the MS-177 is capable of shooting.
The U.S. military intends to write off all the spy planes Dragon Lady in 2019. In order not to lose the intelligence capabilities of these aircraft, their equipment will be used on the unmanned RQ-4B. In addition to SYERS-2 we are talking about optical chamber OBC. This equipment will be mounted on Global Hawk through a special transition adapter.
The Global Hawk drone is capable of speeds up to 691 km / h. Camera
can stay in the air for about 32 hours. For comparison, the same parameter for U-2 is only 12 hours.

Sony designed CCD sensor IMX390 specifically designed for machines with Autonomous control. Its main differences from the image sensors in conventional cameras is the suppression of flicker and supports wide dynamic range (High Dynamic Range, HDR).
Important information on roads is often displayed on the led panels. The LEDs will blink when shooting on a consumer camera with the moving car gives a strobe effect. It distorts the image and interferes with the operation of recognizing algorithms. In IMX390 with the function of suppression of flicker (anti-flicker) this problem has been resolved.
Wide dynamic range allows you to see more detail in the adjacent bright and dark areas of a high contrast scene. Support HDR in the Sony sensor helps to avoid clipping of the image at the exit of the dark tunnel on a Sunny day and Vice versa, helps the Autonomous driving system to Orient quickly when entering a tunnel or underground Parking.
According to the statement Sony is still the market did not offer solutions that combine both of these capabilities, anti-flicker and HDR, and developers had to choose one or the other or to use simultaneously two different cameras.
The Japanese electronics company plans to start shipping evaluation samples of the new sensor later this month.

The team Financial Tech from Armenia has established a program for risk management in online trading. As explained in conversation with the correspondent of NEWS.am one of the leaders of the project Artur Orbelyan, the program sorts for trading companies information about customers.
The team has already created an algorithm for processing large data (big data). Based on the history of transactions introduction is separated from the secondary.
"We're going to spend prizepack our program, which will conduct its testing," he explained.
The project received the award in the venture capital competition a technological STEP grants, which passed with the support of the European Union, the German Society for international cooperation (GIZ) and the Foundation "enterprise Incubator" Foundation (EIF).

SolarGaps — Ukrainian development, which was recently presented on Kickstarter. The world's first blinds not only protect from the sun, but also transform the energy of his rays into electricity for your home. The newspaper reports Na chasi.
The developers SolarGaps argue that in the case of installation of these blinds on all the Windows of the room, the level of energy consumption can be reduced by 70%. Each square meter of the surface of these blinds generates up to 100W of electricity. The excess can stockpile or sell at a special "green" tariff.
SolarGaps involve installing a special application on the smartphone to control the operation of the smart blinds. The application monitors the level of power generation, the angle of inclination of the working panels, and raising / lowering blinds. You can set day, night and daily schedule of blinds in automatic mode.
On Kickstarter there was a Ukrainian smart blinds — solar panels
Guarantee for SolarGaps is not less than 5 years, and the cost for advance reservations is $249.
