The world's first cruise liner, operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG), left the construction dock at the shipyard in German Papenburg on Tuesday.
Ship AIDAnova length of 337 m has more than 2,6 thousand cabins, reports BusinessCenter with reference to Interfax-Ukraine
The liner will depart for the first flight on December 2 from Hamburg.
As informs Deutsche Welle, the operator of cruise ships Aida ordered the construction of three ships, which will be used as fuel LNG. According to the company, it invested more than 3 billion euros in this project.
Meanwhile, the German Conservation Union (Nabu) is concerned about air pollution due to the development of cruise tourism. LNG is considered less harmful to the environment than diesel fuel. However, further progress in the field of climate policy "not only on the maintenance of cleanliness of the atmosphere" will be possible if the gas is obtained from renewable sources, said Nabu expert Ditmar Oliger.
The organization is outraged that in 2018 on the market there are still represented ships designed for "heavy" fuel and not using efficient technologies in solving the problem of exhaust gases. In particular, many vessels are not equipped with filters of particulate matter.
The Union calls to prohibit the entry of "dirty ships" into European ports. According to the experts of the organization, this will allow "to some extent to overcome the threat to the health of local residents and sensitive ecosystems." Source: https://biz.censor.net.ua/n3082458
