The essence of the process is that the plant's body transmits electrical impulses to the device, choosing the direction of its movement. This is one of the first successful experiments to create a symbiosis between a plant and a mechanism.
Elowan is a robotic two-wheeled platform, on which the plant pot is located. In the process of vital activity, the cells of the body produce electrical impulses, and the mechanism picks them up and turns them into teams.
The system decodes the body's biological signals using silver electrodes implanted in the leaves, roots and stem of a plant.
The direction of movement depends on the strength of the impulse. In the process of testing, the robot, without the help of an operator, reached the source of light needed by the plant for photosynthesis.
In the future, the development will allow the creation of robotic farms, in which plants will be able to independently drive up to the source of substances necessary for growth - light or moisture, representatives of the university say.
