Saudi Arabia is building a futuristic metropolis worth $ 500 billion in the desert near the Red Sea
111
Neom is a city with artificial rain, a fake moon, holographic teachers and dinosaur robots.
Judging by the project documentation that fell into the hands of reporters, the first phase of the construction of the city of the future Neom in the Tabuk province of Saudi Arabia should be completed in 2020. The ribbon will be cut in 2025, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman assured. If everything goes according to plan, Neom will be 33 times larger than New York. According to project managers, they are not building anything more ambitious in the world.
The name "Neom" is a hybrid word made up of the Greek "neos", which means new, and the Arabic "mustakbal", that is, the future. Its area is 26.5 thousand square meters. km
The Saudi Investment Fund has invested at least $ 500 billion in the project, and foreigners - a few more million.
Neom will become part of the Vision 2030 program - a plan to reduce Saudi Arabia's dependence on oil and transform the state into a global technology center.
Among the project consultants are the three largest firms: McKinsey & Co, Boston Consulting and Oliver Wyman. Here's what they recommended:
- Use cloud sowing technology to rain more often over the desert.
- Create a progressive educational system where school teachers will be replaced by holograms.
- Build an island in the style of "Jurassic Park", with dinosaur robots.
- Launch a fleet of drones every night that will project the illusion of the world's largest moon.
- To transport tourists around the city by air taxi.
- Change the coastline of the Red Sea and add sand to the beaches glowing in the dark.
