Wi-Fi is the most popular technology for Internet access, but it is not without flaws, due to which communication in some cases may be lost or weakened. What if the home Internet is no longer as bright as it used to be?
Reloading
This is the most obvious and stupid advice, but, oddly enough, sometimes he helps out. Perhaps the memory of the router was full, and therefore it does not manage to process all the packets. The reset will clear its memory and free up space. Some routers restart themselves on a schedule.
Parasites
Go to the settings of the router through the browser and see who else is connected to your network. Even if you do not have guest access, your Wi-Fi could be cracked by someone by selecting a password or using a trojan.
Rate
Go to your account on the provider's website or look into the contract with him and find out the connection speed. If it is below 10 megabits per second, it will be problematic to use the Internet comfortably. Perhaps it makes sense to take a more advanced tariff or change the provider.
Router
Like any other equipment, routers become obsolete both morally and technically. Sell the old router, add a little money and buy a new one, more smart. Even the cheapest modern routers work fast enough, but for more expensive models, usually a higher speed and a more powerful signal.
Firmware
Go to the settings of the router and see if there are updates available. Perhaps, after installing the update, the Internet speed will increase. Update is also necessary because routers have vulnerabilities that are exploited by hackers. Perhaps your router has already become part of the botnet and it is because of this that the speed has decreased.
Repeater
In large flats and houses, only one router usually does not have enough power for all rooms. Repeaters, repeaters, amplifiers or signal repeaters solve this problem. Their task is to amplify the Wi-Fi signal, increasing the coverage area.
Free channel
In multi-apartment buildings, dozens of routers coexist with each other and they all operate in the same frequency range, but on different channels. Check which channel is freer than the rest (for example, using the WiFi Analyzer application), and then go to the settings of the router and switch to this channel. Some router models can automatically switch to the least busy channel.
Location:
Radio emission is extinguished by thick walls (especially if there are metal bars in them). If your computer is partitioned off from the router by several walls, it is not surprising that the connection is too slow and unstable. Open the properties of the wireless network and look at the signal quality and data rate. If the green division is small, and the speed is below the default for the Wi-Fi adapter in the computer and the router, then it makes sense to install the router closer to the computer.
