Specialists from the Melbourne Royal University of Technology noted that it is suitable because of its fire resistance and containment of termites.
In the work presented in The Conversation, it is said that, in addition to mold, new building material includes rice and glass. For unusual bricks, the fungus of the species Trametes colored was used. The material itself is called the "mycelium composite". According to the author of the work Tien Hyuin, the bricks turned out to be light, but very strong. At the same time, not some kind of special glass was used, but dirty fragments thrown to the dump.
Adding to the basis of the rice husks, which linked mold to each other, specialists were able to bake the building material, which was called "the most environmentally friendly". Also, experts noted that its production is cheaper than plastics or artificial wood, and reduces the amount of waste.
