A 2 MW unit will be installed by Orbital Marine Power. Turbines with a diameter of 20 meters will operate on a 73-meter platform.
Orbital Marine Power and TEXO Group have signed a contract to build the world's largest tidal power station in Scotland, according to ElectroVesti.
The start of work is scheduled for 2020. The Orbital O2 power plant will consist of a floating platform 73 meters long and two turbines with a capacity of 1 MW each, with a rotor diameter of 20 m. In total, the installation will produce more than 2 MW of electricity.
In 2016, Orbital Marine Power launched a 2 MW Orbital SR2000 pilot plant. Over 12 months of continuous operation, it produced more than 3 GW * h of renewable energy.
According to the CEO of Orbital, Orbital O2 will become the flagship project for the development of tidal energy. Experts estimate that by 2050 tidal energy can provide about 10% of European electricity needs.
